Conference Program

Note: A detailed program will be published in the near future. Topics are listed below. The high-level schedule:


Friday: Jersey Night (Hospitality Room 6 pm to 1 am)  -Meet your fellow official from across the country - wear your favourite jersey from any sport!


7:30 am – 8:30 am: Breakfast

8:30 am: Sessions begin

4:00 pm: Sessions end

6:00 pm – 7:00 pm: Cocktail hour at Studio Bell

7:00 pm – 10:00 pm: Dinner, speakers (Randy Ambrosie, …), and presentation of the Tom Cheney award.


8:00 am – 9:00 am: Breakfast

9:00 am – 10:30 am: Football Canada presentation and rule updates

10:30 am – 11:30 am: CFOA AGM


Sample program topics:

  • The officiating community.

    • Our purpose, sources of support, leadership.

  • Recruiting, developing, and retaining new officials.

  • How do we handle progression of officials to higher levels of competition?

  • Evaluations – formal and informal.

  • Succession planning.

  • Game preparation and management.

  • Communication.

  • Foul standards – from U-Sports to lower levels.

  • Local association best practices.

  • Football Canada development program and certification revisions.

  • Rule updates and discussion.


  • U-Sports/CJFL clinic – focused on 7-man mechanics and rule updates for those leagues.

    • This is the “Canada West/PFC Spring Clinic” that has been conducted annually in western Canada by Darryl Baron and Brian Small.

    • Conference attendees working at these senior levels are encouraged to attend the clinic (all regions are welcome!).

    • The conference will split into two tracks for the duration of the clinic.

      • Those not attending the clinic will attend sessions that include a selection of topics from the list above.
